Dag 28, maandag 23 juni

We hebben gezellig buiten gezeten vanavond. Lekker zitten beppen met andere campinggasten. Een Chinees met zijn vrouw die in Vancouver wonen en een echtpaar uit Florida op doorreis naar Aspen. Zo gezellig. Ik kreeg nog wat informatie over mooie plekken rond Aspen in Colorado en wat kaarten. Maar dat is pas voor volgende week. Voor het eerst zitten we nu binnen omdat het buiten te fris wordt en hoeven we de airco niet aan. Echt wel even een verademing. Vanmorgen in Monument Valley was het nog snikheet in de ochtend. Daar wil ik ‘s middags niet wezen. Het was natuurlijk weer heel mooi daar. Het rode steen en die vreemde rotsen, de heilige grond van de Indianen. Wat wel tegenviel was de prijs. Vroeger was dit een nationaal park en gratis en nu extreem duur 20 dollar Een poppetje waar ik in een gewoon dorp 15 dollar voor betaal, daar vragen ze hier 100 dollar voor. Nu hebben ze het in de uitverkoop gegooid met 50 procent korting maar dan nog….. Op onze doorreis naar het noorden kwamen we vandaag door het dorpje Fort Bluff. Daar was in de dorpskern een opstelling van oude en nagemaakte pioniershutten met inboedel en een bezoekerscentrum met een film. Heel interessant en het is ongelofelijk te zien hoe deze bevolking zich letterlijk een gat door de rots heeft geslagen om in de vallei waar Fort Bluff nu ligt. Vandaaruit zijn we via een reservaat van Ute indianen uiteindelijk hier belandt op een camping in Monticello Utah

Day 28, Monday June 23

We sat outside all evening and had nice conversations with the other camping guests. One Chinees couple from Vancouver, and a couple from Florida on their way to Aspen Colorado, Really very friendly people and the lady gave me some information flyers and cards from the Aspen area. Very handy. But about that more next week when we get into that region. Now for the first time we are sitting inside the RV because it was getting to cold outside. What a relief. Nu noisy airco on.

This morning we went to Monument Valley and it was hot out there. I would not want to be there around noon. Ofcourse it was fabulous out there, the red rocks and the strange shapes in this sacred Indian land. What was a bit of a disillusionment was the prices. To get in it costs 20 dollar because it is nowadays a tribal thing where it used to be free. The visitors center is changed into a huge gift shop with handmade Indian stuff made in Hong Kong. Price are extremely high and even though they have a discount now of 50 % it still is twice as expensive as when you buy the same thing in a small town shop. Our journey went through a little town called Fort Bluff. The town center was really nice. They had old lodges and copy’s of that filled up with all stuff pioneers used. Really nice. In the visitors center of the town they had a film out how the pioneers got there. They had to cut a hole in the rock to get into the valley of Fort Bluff. And now we are on a small campground in Monticello in Utah
