Dag 16, woensdag 11 juni

Salt Lake City, stad van de Mormonen.

Op de tempelsquare krijg je alle informatie over Mormonen die je ooit zou wensen, en de vriendelijkheid waarmee je te woord wordt gestaan is roerend. Lieve mensen ontmoet, een mooi orgelconcert beluisterd in het Tabernakel, babbeltje met de organist natuurlijk, en ook met de meiden die ons rondleidden. Vanuit alle hoeken van de aardbol komen jonge mensen hier vrijwillig werken. Rondleidingen geven is een van hun taken. Met handkarren zijn de pioniers rond 1848 vanuit voornamelijk Illinois ,richting Utah gelopen. Op naar het land bij de Zoute Meren, want daar konden ze hun Utopie waarmaken. Mormoon zijn zonder veroordeeld te worden. Een land dat zout was en waar geen boom stond. Alleen indianen (Ute) leefden hier en van hen hebben ze aanvankelijk geleerd hoe te overleven in dit barre oord. Ze hebben er iets van gemaakt. Complimenten.

Salt Lake City, city of Mormons,

On temple square je can get all the information about the Mormons you would ever wish for, and the friendliness of these people is touching. Nice people out here today. In the Tabernacle we listened to an organ concert and ofcourse being as nosy as I am, a little chat with the organist was inevitable. From all the corners of the world they come to this place the Mormons. The youngsters do their share of voluntary work with pleasure. They are so proud.

With carts, pulled by hand they went. From Illinois in 1848 to the new land at the salt sea where only Native Americans survived sofar. The natives taught them the first skills to survive and the Mormons really made something great out of their Utopia. Compliments are in order here.
